Rose had not been happy with him. Not at all. And she let him know exactly how upset and worried she'd been about his getting himself hurt so badly -- again! -- right after she hugged him and kissed him and squealed with glee to find him up and about. Rose hadn't been very surprised to find him suddenly (miraculously) healed literally overnight or that the Voice had finally gone, and that worried him a little bit. Even more than her scolding him. Still, there'd been a lot of crying and apologies followed by more hugging and kissing. And promises, of course. Promises that he meant from the bottom of his heart and would keep as best he could. Rose accepted them on faith and love and, as far as her little 6 year old mind was concerned, that settle everything.

Except. Mister Smith still needed to find Bliss and apologize to him as well.

He passed quite a number of surprised (and apparently relieved) servants, none of whom expected to see him out of bed for a month at least, but not Bliss. Apparently the god had gone out early that morning to attend to some business.

"But," said Samual, trying to hide how happy he was to see the young man up and walking around, "You will probably find him out by the playhouse. He hasn't stopped working on it since . . . before."

The playhouse he and Bliss had started over a month ago had grown considerably since last he saw it. Bliss must have been working on it every day, and that made Mister Smith feel even more guilty and sad. It was hidden from childish eyes by a glamour but Smith could see it clearly. Just as he could see his best friend standing off to one side, mixing a bucket of bright blue paint.

"Can I help?" he asked a bit hesitantly.

Bliss lead him though the first room, that looked perfectly normal, save for the fireman's pole that came though the cealing... and into the next, near the back. There were two windows in this room, one of half moon and the other of a large star, and there were drawings of squares, circles and triangles all over the walls, overlapping, alone... combined...

"I was thinking this room could be the climbing room... with all the boxes... bouncy balls... maybe some hand holds on the walls?"

"Like one of those rock walls? That would be great!" He moved around the room, getting a feel for it and the artwork on the walls. Looking up at the ceiling he said, "Maybe put some patterns up there, too?"

"Great idea... maybe have the patterns sort of blend from the walls to the ceiling?"

He nodded and smiled. "I like that! And maybe on the floor, too? So you can see it sometimes if you move the bouncy balls and pillows and things?"

"Or maybe a spiral of colours on the floor? From the middle working it's way out? Or should we do that in another room?" He started painting one of the squares blue.

"Could you make them move? The colors, I mean?" he asked as he set worked on opening one of the cans of red paint. "Maybe with a special light?"

"Um... I don't know if I can do that... I mean I could for a while, but to make it stay like that?" Bliss shrugged, "Though I have heard of specail lights that made things glow... maybe we could have that instead?"

"I think I've seem them," he said, remembering a dance club he'd been in once with Kurdy and Jeremiah. There had been blue lighting that made certain colors in the darkness glow and stand out. "It would be a lot easier than trying to magic it," he admitted as he began to paint a circle red.

"It really would, because I would have to keep remembering to come in and charm the floor to work like that..." and it wasn't that he had a short memory, just that he was a lot busier now that he used to be.

As he finished painting the shape he was working on, he moved to the next one he thought would look good in blue, "So what do you think so far? Did I get the design right?" He really couldn't wait for Smith to see the slide that was in the last room, that was going to go down into a ball pit.

"I could probably rig something myself, if I had the right equipment," he mused, looking at the ceiling and the corners, already imagining where he could place the lights and how he could disguise them. "And the design is great," he continued, looking around at the walls, some with designs already painted and others waiting for color. "They're going to love it." He smiled. "I might even come back here and play."

"Equipment isn't going to be the problem, we won't have any problem with that." He was excited, "But I'll leave that to you if you think you can do it... I'm not that great with the electrical stuff." He was better with things he could make by hand.

Giggling, "I was telling Mr. Jude that when it was done he could bring his kids to play here... and if he wanted to.. well he could too. This is for everyone... but 'specally the kids."

"I think I can come up with a little something," he said, the enthusiasm lighting up his eyes. He loved to tinker and hadn't had a chance to do much since arriving in the temple. "Maybe we should have an open house when it's ready and invite kids and parents. Well, those that have parents."

Bliss could tell that his suggestion made his frimed happy, and that made him feel all the more better.

"An open house sounds great to me." Switching to the yellow paint and finding a circle that was begging to be bright and sunny like a sun, "I was thinking of offering the adoption to the kids before then..."

"When were you going to ask them?" he asked, moving to a triangle with the red paint. "Do you want company when you do?"

"I don't know really... I think soon, so we can do something special for them," he thought they needed it.

"Maybe have a sleep over and a movie night, then talk to them in the morning?" He stepped back to consider the shape he was painting and realized he'd missed a spot. "Or maybe ask Rose what she thinks? Children know what other children like best."

"Maybe... they might like a sleep over anyway... just because they wouldn't have to worry about dinner." Think's he'll have to go talk to the foster parents about that.

"Well, why not let them sleep over in their own room. Just don't tell them yet. Maybe ask them how they'd decorate it? Then in the morning, spring the news."

Deciding that the triangle he was working on needed to be two colors, Bliss opened the yellow paint and outlined it. "We'll need to build another couple of rooms then... or just make them..." He was glad his house was bigger on the inside than it looked out the out because they had built on quite a lot in this past year.

"That shouldn't be too hard," he replied, looking down and realizing he'd dripped quite a bit of red paint on his battered old shoes. "Maybe use a little bit of both? But I think it will be a nice surprise when you tell them it's theirs."

"I think it will be too... how about adjoining rooms though, a boys room and a girls room? They're old enough now to start wanting their own..." Dipping his paint brush in the red paint, then working on the circle adjoining the blue and yellow triangle.

From: [identity profile] mistersmith-tm.livejournal.com
"I hadn't thought of that. That's a good point." He kicked off his shoes, set them in the middle of the room, then went back to painting. It was easier to clean his bare feet than the shoes. "Their own separate rooms. They really will be surprised!"

Laughing, "Definitly surprised. But they deserve it, they've had such a hard life." He was so very tempted to splash paint at him.

The funny thing about the bond that they shared was that sometimes Mister Smith caught a glimmer of what Bliss was thinking or, more specifically, feeling. He glanced over at his friend and caught him contemplating the brush in his hands.

"Wait. I think you missed a spot," he said. When Bliss turned to look at the wall, Smith flicked his wrist and sent a thin splatter of paint from his brush across the back of Bliss's wings.

Spreading out his wings and shaking them, at Smith... "The best way to have them..." flicking his paintbrush at Smith and getting red on his shirt.
